Stitching is self-expression. Storytelling.
Stitching is therapy. Repair in a world that’s fast and often unfair.
Stitching is pleasant solitude or fine time with friends.
I have made garments and accessories for home decor.
I’ve dyed wool and cut it, hooking traditional American rugs.
I’ve sewn and painted one-of-a-kind cloth dolls.
I’ve beaded and embroidered. I’ve felted and folded and coiled.
I’ve woven a bit and knit a skein or two.
For the last fifteen years, I’ve focused my energy on two-dimensional cloth art,
mostly “quilts” for the wall. I call my style of work “pure quiltage” (say: kwil-tahge’),
because it’s a synthesis of piecing and layering fused applique',
stitching and adhering, so to speak----textile collage.
I love the tradition, but I want to tweak it
with unexpected combinations of pattern and color.
I want to layer on scores of yo-yos, and hundreds (maybe!), of flat sequins.
My work portrays what’s important to me-- family, faith,
the beauty of creation, the courage of the human spirit, the joy of humor...
